Brian C. Wuttke: Biography

Brian C. Wuttke is currently the Band Director at the Kendall campus of Miami Dade College and is pursuing a PhD in music education at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. He is an experienced music teacher, having served the Miami-Dade County Public School system, the nation’s fourth largest, for twenty years. He has taught instrumental music at G. W. Carver Middle School, Coral Gables High School and Killian High School. Concert, jazz and marching bands under his direction have consistently earned superior ratings at district music performance assessments. The Killian High School Jazz Band and Wind Symphony have received the coveted state superior award numerous times while under his direction. The Killian Wind Symphony attained further distinction by being invited to the 2002 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival. While under his direction, the Killian Wind Symphony has accumulated over fifteen titles in the Florida State University Band Recording Library.

Mr. Wuttke is a certified adjudicator for the Florida Bandmasters Association and frequently serves as a judge and clinician at evaluations and band workshops across the state. He traveled to Tokyo, Japan in 2001 as a state liaison/observer for the 49th annual All Japan Band Competition. Brian has also presented several in-service workshops on topics including “Band Program Organizational Skills,” “Computerized Festival Scheduling” and “Group Intonation and Harmony Training for Band.”

Brian is recognized in Who’s Who of American Teachers 2000, 2001 and 2004. He was the 2004 runner-up for the Miami-Dade County Public School Teacher of the Year. In 2005, Brian earned National Board Certification in Early Adolescent and Young Adulthood. He has been a member of the Music Educators National Conference and Florida Bandmasters Association for over twenty years. Brian has served as district chairman on the Florida Bandmasters Association state board of directors. In 2006, the Florida Music Educators Conference recognized Brian as one of several Emerging Leaders in the state.
